Netflix plans to remove almost all of its Interactive Offerings.
The streaming company confirmed to Engadget that it will remove 20 of its 24 existing Interactive Specials on December 1st.
The remaining four are Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend, You vs Wild and Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls.
Most Interactive Specials play out like branching stories, with viewers watching events that sometimes ask them to make decisions that will affect the storyline.
Most contain multiple endings, encouraging players to rewatch the Interactive Special to see other outcomes.
When first introduced, Interactive Specials was seen by some as one of Netflix's first attempts to add game-like content to its service.
It's true, Bandersnatch is about a British game developer in the 80s, and was named after a canceled computer game.
Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher told The Verge that the Interactive Special idea “has served its purpose, but is now limited as we focus on technology efforts in other areas.”
The full list of Interactive Specials that will be removed is:
