Whether a new season has dropped for the TV show you've been watching or you're just trying to get back to something you left too long ago, quick recaps can be very helpful. Well, looks like the folks at Amazon have been having a hard time catching up. Darkand decided to deploy a new X-Ray Recaps feature in Prime Video!
Yes, Prime Video now has a dedicated Recaps feature. While TV shows already give you the “Previously on…” recap, not all shows feature this. For example, for romantic comedies like Two Broke Girls or even The Office, you won't see these quick recaps.
To resolve this issue, the new X-Ray Recaps feature uses Generative AI create “Brief, easy-to-digest summaries of full seasons of TV shows, single episodes, and even chunks of episodes, all personalized down to the exact minute you watch”notes Amazon in a dedicated blog post.
More importantly, these will be “contextual“, “text extracts” major plot points from the previous season as well as other key events to keep you from missing even the slightest plot twist or character development. But yes, it involves reading.
Adam Gray, VP of Product at Prime Video, said:
“With this contextual feature, Prime Video will provide summaries of memorable moments and important plot points so our customers can quickly return to what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place . »
For those wondering, X-Ray Recaps on Prime Video is based on Amazon Bedrock AWS. Additionally, we also learn that a a combination of Bedrock models and custom AI is trained on Amazon SageMaker. This gives X-Ray Recaps the power to analyze video segments and generate “detailed descriptions of key events, locations, times and conversations”.
Additionally, Amazon also claims to have integrated guardrails to make it a spoiler-free experience. Users can find the new feature using a new Summary button on the TV show's Prime Video page. Otherwise, they'll find it alongside the existing X-Ray features in the video overlay, under the In Scene panel.
Currently, the the feature is in beta. It will gradually be rolling out to Fire TV users in the US, starting today. Support for more devices will arrive later this year, according to Amazon. Additionally, Amazon also states that the Prime Video X-Ray Recaps feature will be available to everyone. Original series from MGM Studios. This includes titles like Daisy Jones and the Six, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wheel of Time and The Boys.
Imagine if the feature would compile clips from the entire season to give you a more in-depth recap. Well, let's hope we get something like this in the near future. I'd also like to see Prime Video roll out a feature like Netflix Moments, which would totally hit the mark.
That said, what do you think of the new feature? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
