Gigantamax Pokemon has finally arrived in Pokemon GO, bringing some of the toughest challenges the game has ever seen. These massive creatures aren't just larger versions of regular Pokémon: they have unique appearances and special moves. In this guide, we'll tell you everything you need to know about how to catch a Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokemon GO.
What are Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokemon GO?
Think of Gigantamax Pokemon as supersized versions of regular Pokémon with a special twist. Unlike regular Dynamax Pokémon that only grow in size, Gigantamax Pokémon partially change their appearance when they transform. They also have access to unique G-Max moves that regular Dynamax Pokémon cannot use. Currently you can find Gigantamax versions of Pokémon like Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise in the game.
Each Gigantamax Pokémon can learn up to three special moves:
- G-Max travel: This is their signature attack, unique to each Gigantamax species. For example:
- Gigantamax Venusaur: G-Max Vine Eyelashes
- Gigantamax Charizard: G-Max Wildfire
- Gigantamax Blastoise: G-Max Cannonade
- Maximum guard: A defensive move that reduces the damage of the Power Spot Boss
- Maximum spirit: A support attack that heals both your Pokémon and your allies
You can power them up using Max Particles and Candy. Additionally, unlike Dynamax Pokemon, a Gigantamax Pokemon's G-Max Move does not need to match the type of its fast attack.
How to catch a Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokemon GO?
Getting a Gigantamax Pokémon isn't easy, but here are the best tips to help you.
- Find a power point: First of all, you will need to locate a Power Spot on your map where Gigantamax Pokémon appear. These special locations host Max Battles where you can encounter these huge Pokémon.
- Gather a team: You'll definitely need a team to get your hands on a Gigantamax Pokémon. These specific Pokémon might just be the hardest Pokémon to defeat in the game and so it is recommended to have at least 30 players (maximum 40) with you. The game divides players into groups of four, but each player's damage counts toward defeating the boss.
- Before joining the battle, make sure you have 800 Max Particles and a Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokémon.
Current Gigantamax Schedule
Starting in November 2024, the last Gigantamax Pokémon to appear will be Toxicity during the Go Wild Area Global event. So make sure you are prepared.
