Snapdragon 8 Elite overheating issues appear in early testing

Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC has made a lot of noise so far, with tests showing it beating Apple's A18 Pro. Most Snapdragon SoCs have never had heating issues, except for the 8 Gen 1 and 888. But a report now suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Elite is also prone to overheating.

When testing the Realme GT 7 Pro, expected to launch on November 4 with Snapdragon 8 Elite, Android Authority claims the phone was overheating. The report states that this happened during benchmarking when three messages appeared, all related to the phone being hot, thus limiting functionality.

Android Authority The unit was unable to complete 3DMark stress tests. The device became “uncomfortably hot” at 46 degrees Celsius, with numerous notification warnings appearing. It is known that manufacturers change references during the first days of release. Realme may have configured it incorrectly, which is probably causing the overheating issues.

Realme then contacted Android Authority saying: “We also noticed the same situation. We will release an updated version; Please restart your phone tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, and you should be able to run tests with the genuine software.”

It is worth noting that Realme claims that the GT 7 Pro has the largest vapor cooling system which it calls Iceberg VC. The rise in temperatures despite the larger steam chamber is quite worrying. But it is also too early to judge because there are still many concrete tests remaining.

Either way, we hope the Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers the performance and efficiency it promises.
